Pūrva Mīmāṃsā: A Tool of Interpretation.
The lecture presented how Pūrva Mīmāṃsā determines the precise meaning of Vedic statements through linguistic and contextual analysis.

Dr. Srinivasan explained that the Mīmāṃsā tradition is a collective, generational scholarly endeavour, developed over centuries through the contributions of many thinkers.

He demonstrated using the example “Whatever you want, give it,” he showed how interpretation may vary—either as

1) giving according to one’s will or
2) giving exactly what one wishes for oneself, with the remainder retained.

Such clarity, he noted, depends on context—who speaks, to whom, and for what purpose. Similarly, “Godāna” (गोदान), commonly understood as the sacred donation of cows, can in a specific ritual context signify the first shaving ceremony of a Brahmin boy.

He further outlined key Mīmāṃsā analytical frameworks and the five principal types of Mīmāṃsā vākyas: Vidhi, Niṣedha, Arthavāda, Mantra and Nāmadhēya.

𝐃𝐫. 𝐔𝐦𝐚 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐧𝐚𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐦𝐲, the Endowment maker, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the vision behind the Endowment in memory of her father.

KSRI thanks the scholars, students and participants for making this programme a meaningful celebration of Sanskritic thought and Indian music traditions.
